What we do - The CenterPoint Group specializes in managing the assets of high net worth individuals, families, foundations, corporations and Native American tribes. In addition, we specialize in cash management and asset and liability management for the same. We also facilitate the management of corporate retirement plans and work closely with our clients who are interested in philanthropy.

Who we are – Our team consists of 4 dedicated professionals each with experience you can count on. The founding partners of our team have an average of 31 years of market and investment experience. We've successfully managed through the ups and downs of several market cycles, including (but not limited to): the Iraq war, the dot-com bubble, the September 11th attacks, and the financial crisis of 2008 and offer this experience, expertise and steady guidance to your individual wealth management scenario.

This includes experts in longevity planning and survivor protection, mortgage financing, lending and estate planning to name a few.

Greg Hogensen is an Executive Director - specializing in wealth management with UBS Financial Services in Lake Oswego, Oregon. He is the managing partner of the CenterPoint Group, providing strategies and advice to families, foundations, endowments, and businesses in Oregon and throughout the country.

Greg joined Smith Barney as an Account Executive in 1987, obtained his securities licenses and began his financial services career. His distinguished tenure at Smith Barney included a promotion to Branch Manager where he was responsible for branch operations as well as the supervision of approximately 18 advisors and their businesses from 1993 to 2000. He received Smith Barney President's Club awards for 1989-2006 and a promotion to Senior Investment Management Consultant in 1998. Greg graduated from Smith Barney's Consulting Group University and from 1997-1999 he was chosen to serve as one of the University's esteemed instructors. Shifting his attention to his own career, during 2000 Greg formed a partnership, The CenterPoint Group, with financial advisor Dean Howell.

During the year 2009, after the Smith Barney Morgan Stanley merger, the CenterPoint Group experienced another growth phase as financial advisor Carl Johnsen joined the team. While at Morgan Stanley, Greg received a promotion to Portfolio Manager DIrector. In 2013, the CenterPoint Group joined UBS FInancial Services, Inc. to leverage the firm's resources to provide world class service and innovative solutions to their high net worth clients.

Born in Salem, Oregon in 1959, Greg attended Sprague High School before earning a football scholarship to play tight end for the Ducks at the University of Oregon. He graduated in 1981 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Buisness Administration and Real Estate. In addition to Lake Oswego, where he resided for the last 16 years, Greg lived in Salt Lake City, Utah, Eugene and Bend, Oregon. He and his wife have two grown children, both currently living in New York City. Greg is an active member in his community serving on several committees and boards, as follows:

  • The 20-30 Club, an organization chartered to care for needy children
  • Board Chairman of the Oregon College of Arts & Crafts (2008-2009)
  • President of the Oregon Arts and Craft Foundation (2004-2006)
  • Member of the Oregon Club (1987-1992)
  • Committee member of the Lake Oswego Chapter of YOung Life (2000-2012)
  • University of Oregon Lundquist School Business Board of Advisors (2000-2010)
  • Marylhurst University Board of Trustees (2009-2017), where he has served as chair for the audit, finance, investment, and nominating committees
  • Dechutes River Alliance and Marion County Sherriff's Department Post 18 Search & Rescure (1973-1977)
  • Oregon Club of Portland Board Member (1987-1993)

Enjoying membership at the Lake Oswego Country Club and the Fly Fishing Club of Oregon, Greg is passionate about fly fishing, pledging his support to the Fishery for the Future Generations organization. Over the years, he has dedicated his time and resources in the support of Habitat for Humanity, among other causes.

Carl Johnsen is a financial advisor and Senior Portfolio Manager with The CenterPoint Group at UBS Financial Services responsible for business development. The CenterPoint Group’s services include investment management, retirement planning, estate planning, education planning, cash management and asset and liability management for individuals, corporations and Native American tribes.

A financial advisor since 1997, Carl started out in financial services with investment firm, Smith Barney, building a business focused on asset management with a concentration on providing “total returns” for his clients. In 2009, he merged his practice with two other financial advisors. The CenterPoint Group, partnership consists of three financial advisors, one portfolio technician, and one client service associate. During October 2013, after Morgan Stanley completed the acquisition of Smith Barney, the CenterPoint Group moved to UBS Financial Services in Lake Oswego. Truly caring about each and every client, Carl prides himself in staying up-to-date with the lives of each family so that he can provide timely advice and tailor his services to meet their needs.

Growing up in Portland and Denver, Colorado, Carl graduated from the University of Portland with an Industrial Engineering degree emphasizing Business. He enjoys playing golf and traveling. Carl and his wife have five children and reside in Damascus, Oregon.

Ronnie Cobb is a senior registered client service associate with The CenterPoint Group at UBS Financial Services. She has 30 years of financial services industry experience and is an Accredited Asset Management Specialist. Ronnie is responsible for supporting the daily activities of each financial advisor on the team and serving as the main point of contact for client service and administration.  

In 1987, Ronnie took her first position in the industry with Merrill Lynch in Tacoma, WA. Since then, she has worked for several other financial services firms. Additionally, Ronnie spent over three years as an Operations Manager for the Oregon Complex of UBS Financial Services, Inc. before leaving to focus on her passion, client relationship management. With the skills and experience Ronnie has developed over the years, she is able to build trusting, long term relationships with each CenterPoint Group client. 

Born in Los Alamos, NM Ronnie was high school valedictorian receiving a full scholarship to New Mexico State University. While attending college Ronnie was given an opportunity to work on the “Star Wars” project at the White Sands Missile Range. She graduated with a bachelor's degree in marketing and a minor in management. Ronnie lived and worked in the San Francisco Bay Area from 1987–2004 before relocating to Oregon. She has two grown daughters and enjoys rafting and cooking.

Derek Nelson joined UBS Financial Services in 2014. As a Wealth Strategy Associate with The CenterPoint Group, his responsibilities include financial planning, marketing, portfolio implementation, trading, and client services. Derek is a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ which he earned in 2018. This designation allows him to provide expert advice to clients in the financial planning field, which is his passion. He is also a Chartered Retirement Plan Specialist (CRPS®) which allows him to provide expertise in the retirement plan business.

Prior to becoming a Wealth Strategy Associate, Derek worked for Ashland Partners, a specialty CPA firm providing due diligence solutions to the financial services industry. While reviewing investment accounts for institutions and individuals at Ashland Partners, Derek learned how various portfolio strategies impact performance results.

Derek attended Pacific University where he played for the baseball team from 2007-2010. He earned his Bachelors of Arts in Business Administration with an emphasis in Accounting in 2011. During his free time, he enjoys traveling and spending time camping and clam digging at the beach. Derek, and his wife, Traci, live in North Plains.
