Tailored solutions for hedge funds and private equity firms

Given their unique needs and regulatory requirements, our team is able to offer advice specifically for hedge fund and private equity executives and their employees. We offer highly tailored solutions that can align with their firm’s investments and risk parameters.

Our team has developed a solution to allow alternative investment firms to offer their own fund(s) as an investment option in their 401k plan, while maximizing the benefit to employees.

Plan design Through thoughtful plan design, partners can carve out a smaller group of employees to participate in the cash balance plan. Using our proposed structure, employees can save up to six figures, pre-tax, per year (depending on their age).

Our solution will allow all participants to invest in your proprietary fund, regardless of Qualified Purchaser or Accredited Investor status.

By utilizing a managed account or trustee directed fund our plan design satisfies the QP and AI investor standards, as well as the non-discrimination rules established by the Department of Labor.

Our plan design allows your employees to maximize their pre-tax contributions to the 401k Plan ($56,000 for 2019). Pairing the 401k Plan with a Cash Balance Defined Benefit Plan will allow a curated group of partners and employees to defer additional pretax savings.

  • Credit facilities to individual Limited Partners: The UBS Private Equity Fund(s) Lending Program is designed to give you access to liquidity sources that you may not have previously considered. Although Private equity interests are rarely though not typically thought of as a source of liquidity, they may but actually offer an opportunity for leverage.
  • Facilities provided to funds that are secured by capital call commitments: Subscription lines (or capital call lending facilities) are borrowing facilities for general partners to use when they need to act quickly, or if they would rather finance an investment using a lending facility, instead of requesting funds from the limited partners. The collateral for the loans are the unfunded commitments of the limited partners.
  • A programmatic offering allowing senior employees of private equity firms to leverage their limited partnership interests in their firm's private equity funds: Private equity firms often use employee financing programs as retention tools. It also acts as a way to increase employee investment in the firm's proprietary funds which helps to incentivize employees to perform.
