A wealth of experience

Tom’s extensive 35-year career has encompassed international banking in French-speaking Europe, currency trading in New York City, and investment banking and portfolio management in the Pacific Northwest. His dedication to guiding clients and their portfolios through numerous economic and market cycles over the years has only strengthened Tom's belief that building friendships and relationships is key to understanding and serving our clients' needs.

The personal approach

Tom joined UBS in 2006. As Senior Portfolio Manager, his primary focus is on developing and managing investment portfolios tailored to each client's personal objectives and risk tolerances.  In an era when index funds and passive management increasingly dominate the investment landscape, Tom leads his team's embrace of active management and portfolios comprised largely of carefully chosen individual stocks.  "We like to know what we own," summarizes his investment philosophy, and as a result, our clients know exactly where we have invested for them, and why.

Tom and his multigenerational team understand the life stages that each client typically passes through, and how those passages shape that client's needs and concerns over time. This understanding is reflected in the highly personal approach our team takes in caring for each client.

Giving back

Tom is an Executive Board Member as well as Chair of the Governance Committee of the Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) of Oregon, whose mission is to serve as a voice/advocate for foster children. His wife is an active CASA volunteer as well.

Outside UBS

Tom believes that relationships with family and friends reflect what's important in life. He and Anna Maria have four adult children—two of his sons work at The Savinar Group—and now, a grandson.  Tom loves spending free time with his wife, family, and black lab, Oliver—their 3rd black lab—at their house at Cannon Beach.  When not at the Oregon coast he enjoys traveling (especially to French-speaking destinations), upland bird hunting, and running marathons—at last count, ten in countries around the world.

Building long-term relationships

For Alex, nothing is more rewarding than being the first person a client calls when contemplating a major life decision. He is dedicated to building long-term relationships with clients who range from emerging professionals to well-established executives.  His goal is to act as his clients’ “personal CFO,” a title that best describes the vital role he plays on their advisory team.  His clients understand the importance of partnering with a well-rounded advisor to build and secure their financial future.

Finding the right balance

Alex has always loved family and building relationships, so he was naturally drawn to a multigenerational business in which he could work with his family and where helping others is essential. After seven years in the Colorado oil and gas industry, where he gained a deep understanding of the unique needs of energy industry professionals, Alex joined UBS in 2015.

Alex believes that every relationship starts with a comprehensive financial plan. Whether the outcome is building assets, deriving income during retirement or preserving and passing a legacy to the next generation, he focuses on designing an individualized plan, striking that right balance of risk and return that brings peace of mind to clients.

Giving back

Alex is based in Colorado and active in his community. He sits on the board of the Denver Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA), whose mission is to serve as a voice/advocate for foster children. He is also on the board of the Denver chapter of the University of Colorado Alumni Association, where he works to promote the university and raise money to provide children with scholarships.

Outside UBS

Alex and his wife, Nicole—an elementary school teacher –have a young son, Owen, and an equally rambunctious black lab, Chauncey. The family enjoys traveling, skiing, camping, and just being outdoors. Both avid sports fans, Alex and "Nic" met at the University of Colorado and still attend every home football game.
